Breaking News || Primary School Pupils Collapse as Police Use Tear Gas During Protest

Several pupils at a primary school in Meru collapsed on Friday after police officers stormed the learning institution during which they lobbed teargas canisters while attempting to disperse a group of protesters who had taken refuge at the building.

Reports indicate that the tear gas was deployed while students were in their classrooms, disrupting their learning activities. Videos reviewed by aktive citizens teachers trying to revive students who had collapsed from inhaling the fumes. Other pupils were seen rushing to water points to alleviate the irritation caused by the tear gas.

One teacher described the situation, noting that about four canisters were thrown, with one even entering a classroom, though this was likely accidental. The teacher also mentioned that some protesters had entered the school grounds after jumping over the fence.

Following the incident, a rescue team arrived at the school, providing first aid to the affected students before transporting them to the hospital. The large number of casualties required additional ambulances to ensure everyone received medical attention.

The protesters eventually left the school after a brief clash with the police. They vowed to continue their demonstrations until Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza resigns. "We will protest until the governor steps down," said one protester. "We’ve given her two years to make improvements, but we’ve seen no progress. She’s been impeached twice but saved by the Senate. This time, she must go."
