Kompany Cautious Despite Bayern's Record-Breaking 9-2 Champions League Win

Vincent Kompany, the head coach of Bayern Munich, downplayed expectations after his side's record-breaking 9-2 victory against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, calling it merely "a good start." The dominant display at the Allianz Arena made Bayern the first team in Champions League history to score nine goals in a single match.

Despite the historic win, Kompany remained grounded. "It’s about the three points," he said. "Nine goals is unusual, but it was a lot of fun. The team showed great energy and spirit, but we’ve only played one game. The focus is now on the next challenge."

The win also extended Bayern’s incredible record of winning their opening Champions League match for 21 consecutive seasons, a streak dating back to their last opening-day defeat in 2002-03 against Deportivo La Coruña.

Harry Kane was the star of the night, scoring four goals, including a hat-trick of penalties. This feat made him the first player to score three penalties in a single Champions League match. Kane’s four goals also took his tally to 33 in the competition, surpassing Wayne Rooney as the top-scoring Englishman in Champions League history.

Kompany praised Kane, saying, "He’s a top player, highly motivated, and that makes my job easier. He knows how to step up in key moments, and that’s exactly what he did tonight."

Kane's extraordinary performance comes on the back of a Bundesliga hat-trick against Holstein Kiel last weekend, reinforcing his remarkable form this season.
