Huawei Partners with Kenyan Government to Strengthen Cybersecurity Skills and Safeguard Digital Infrastructure.

Chinese telecom giant Huawei has joined forces with the Kenyan government in a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing the cybersecurity skills of the country's workforce. This collaboration is vital for protecting Kenya's digital infrastructure across both public and private sectors, a necessity in today’s rapidly digitizing world.

During a cybersecurity training graduation ceremony held in Nairobi, Raymond Omollo, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, emphasized the importance of this initiative. He noted that the Huawei-sponsored training program is a critical component in the government's strategy to secure Kenya’s cyberspace, particularly in light of the growing digital economy and increased adoption of online services.

“As a government, we value the skills and knowledge provided by Huawei to our staff in IT and cloud technologies. This will significantly boost the implementation of our national cybersecurity strategy,” Omollo stated.

The training program, a collaborative effort between Huawei and various state institutions, targets IT personnel within government, industry, and educational sectors. It is designed to equip public servants and students with the necessary skills to defend Kenya’s digital infrastructure against escalating cyber threats.

Omollo pointed out that with the rapid growth of Kenya’s digital economy, cyber threats have become more frequent and sophisticated. This makes the development of a highly skilled cybersecurity workforce essential to maintaining the security of critical information infrastructure. He stressed that the government is committed to implementing robust cybersecurity measures to protect data, secure communication networks, and defend sensitive information against potential cyber attacks.

Steven Zhang, Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Public Affairs at Huawei Kenya, highlighted that the training and skills development in cybersecurity align with Huawei’s broader goal of supporting digital transformation in Kenya. Zhang emphasized that public-private partnerships like this one are crucial for strengthening the safety of digital infrastructure, enhancing service delivery, and fostering innovation across the country.

This partnership between Huawei and the Kenyan government represents a significant step towards building a resilient and secure digital ecosystem in Kenya. By investing in the skills and knowledge of the country’s cybersecurity professionals, Kenya is positioning itself to better defend against cyber threats and ensure the continued growth of its digital economy.
