Unsafe Construction in Syokimau Leaves Child Injured, Residents Furious
A 3-year-old was injured by a falling brick from a suspended construction site in Syokimau. Residents demand action against violations risking lives. Read the shocking details.
November 18: In Syokimau’s Muthama Heights, a 3-year-old boy and his nanny narrowly escaped death after a brick from a nearby construction site crashed through their rooftop and into their bathroom. The child sustained injuries, leaving residents shaken and worried about their safety.
Belinda Odhiambo, the nanny, described the scary moment to aktive Citizen, "The stone was huge. The way it hit the bathroom, I screamed for help. Only God saved us from a worse fate."
Reports from the National Construction Authority (NCA) revealed that the construction site had previously been shut down for failing safety standards. However, work continued, putting residents in danger.
Caroline, a resident, shared her concerns about living near the site, "We keep telling the workers not to build near us, especially when kids are outside or when we do laundry. But every morning, we still find bricks, helmets, and cement bags fallen around. Stones fall anywhere, and we have children here."

Signs of safety issues were clear loose bricks, falling debris, and cement dust covering residents' homes. Residents have expressed anger over the lack of action by authorities.
Caroline pointed out the specific danger to one house, "For example, house number x is too close to the site. That’s how the brick hit the bathroom, injuring the child."
Officers from Mlolongo Police Station and NCA visited the site after the incident. Investigations confirmed that the construction did not meet required standards and lacked proper approvals.
Residents believe the developer and government authorities share the blame for allowing the unsafe project to continue. They are now demanding immediate action to prevent more accidents and ensure their safety.
