Can Machakos County Revolutionize Its Healthcare? Lessons Learned from Kirinyaga's Leading Medical Facility!
A delegation from Machakos County, led by acting Health CEC Justus Kasivo, visited the modern Kerugoya Medical Complex in Kirinyaga to observe its healthcare model and adopt best practices for enhancing health services in Machakos.
A group from the Machakos county government visited Kirinyaga county on Thursday to observe and learn about healthcare service delivery. The team, consisting of senior officials from the Machakos Department of Health and Medical Services, made the trip just a week after Governor Wavinya Ndeti, along with other governors, toured the Kerugoya Medical Complex during the G7 Kirinyaga Chapter Activation. Wavinya expressed her determination to adopt Kirinyaga's effective healthcare model to enhance health systems in her county for the benefit of its residents. “I plan to establish a public hospital that matches the quality of some of our largest private facilities. I’m sending a team here to gain insights from Kirinyaga,” she remarked.
Led by Justus Kasivo, the acting Health CEC, the team explored various sections of the modern Kerugoya Medical Complex, which opened last year and has 341 beds. The facility includes an ICU with 12 beds and a similar-capacity HDU, providing specialized services in pediatrics, ENT, oncology, dermatology, orthopedics, medical outpatient care, surgical outpatient services, neuro-pediatric care, and obstetrics and gynecology.
The CEC stated, “Our visit stems from the impression our governor had during her visit last week. We aim to observe and adopt effective practices that can enhance the services we provide to our constituents.” The team was particularly interested in Kirinyaga’s digitized healthcare management system, which has improved operational efficiency and patient care quality. Machakos Infrastructure CEC Rashid Kara praised Kirinyaga for making substantial advances in healthcare delivery and infrastructure, positioning it as an exemplary location for benchmarking.
