High Court Orders Acting IG Gilbert Masengeli to Appear Over Police Abduction
Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli has been ordered to appear in court or face sanctions for missing a summons about the abduction of three people by police. The High Court dismissed his excuse of attending a seminar and warned of punishment for contempt. The Law Society of Kenya is representing the victims.
The High Court has ordered Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli to appear in court at 3 P.M. on Thursday or face consequences for missing a previous court summon.
Justice Lawrence Mugambi stated that Masengeli had ignored a court order to explain the disappearance of three people who were abducted by the police three weeks ago.
The judge warned that if the IG does not show up in court, he will be punished for his actions.
The excuse given by a representative of the Attorney General, claiming the IG was in Mombasa for a seminar, was dismissed as insufficient.
The three missing individuals are being represented by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), with lawyers Moses Owuor and Joshua Omanwa handling the case.
