Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni cautions Raila Odinga about Babu Owino's alleged involvement with Uganda's opposition, urging limits in political collaborations. Museveni also expresses support for Raila's African Union Chairmanship bid.
Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has issued a stern warning to Raila Odinga regarding the activities of Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino. Museveni expressed concerns over Babu Owino's alleged involvement with Uganda’s opposition, a move he considers detrimental to Ugandan politics.
Speaking at the launch of Raila Odinga’s African Union Chairmanship bid at Kenya’s Statehouse, Museveni revealed that he has received multiple intelligence reports indicating Babu Owino’s interference in Ugandan political affairs. The long-serving Ugandan leader cautioned those close to Raila Odinga to respect boundaries and avoid collaborations with opposition groups in Uganda.
“There are some individuals in Raila’s group who don’t seem to know their limits. As a consumer of intelligence reports, I often see Babu’s name linked with anti-NRM (National Resistance Movement) groups. I’ve never accused him before, but now I am,” Museveni stated.
Despite his concerns, Museveni reiterated his support for Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Chairmanship, promising his full backing during the voting process next year. His comments highlighted the importance of maintaining political alliances while also keeping a close watch on potential internal and external threats.

The event saw support from several African leaders, including Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu, South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir, Burundian Prime Minister Gervais Ndirakobuca, and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.
